Why do you study English?

To have a better CV?
To go overseas?
To apply for a better job?
To pass the terrible English exams?

Yeap, we are talking about motivations to study English!

For me, the more positive motivation you have, the more interesting and easier English can be.

According to my experience, when I started living in Australia, learning English was a life-vest in the ocean! I had no choice!
In order to survive in a new language and culture, I had to open my mouth to speak with numerous misakes and open my ears to hear only 10-20% of conversations.

To be honest, it was very stressful during those times because I did not feel comfortable and enjoyable about English. Just put in and put in, and there was no time to digest and feel safe to be in.

In contrast, at the moment, I love and enjoy English. My motivation has been shifted from “to survive” to “to explore, discover, and love” English culture.

Now, I am OK to make mistakes.
Now, I am not shy to ask questions or clarifications.
Now, I am happy to talk with some native English speakers and ask them to help me correct my poor English.
Now, I would love to read more about Western and Vietnamese culture and recognise their values.
Now, I do not try to speak without my lovely Vietnamese accent.

In a nutshell, I think I need to learn English to develop my ability to understand myself, others, nature, and the universe. English is a powerful tool to lead me to wisdom.

So, it is my motivation. What’s yours?

Have a great night!
