Our time on earth is a period of planting seeds. Without the resurrection of the dead, everything we experience here would ultimately be meaningless. How could we believe in a God who loves us unconditionally if all our joys and sorrows disappeared with our mortal bodies? Because God’s love extends from eternity to eternity, God cannot permit our bodies—the same kind Jesus took on to save us—to be lost to complete destruction. Instead, our earthly lives are the time when the seeds of our resurrected bodies are sown.
As Paul writes, “What is sown is perishable, but what is raised is imperishable; what is sown is dishonorable, but what is raised is glorious; what is sown is weak, but what is raised is powerful; what is sown is a natural body, and what is raised is a spiritual body” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44).
This profound truth—that nothing we experience in our bodies is in vain—encourages us to live every moment as a part of eternity.
With love,
