Family meals, meals with friends, joyous parties are good examples of “Table fellowship.” It means eating and drinking together around the same table. Together around a table, meals and stories are shared. We laugh and cry together. It is the place life continuing.
A meal on the table is far more than something material. It is a symbol, in other word, a sacrament of reunion and communion. At the meal, we not only share food but also to be present with our beloved ones.
Sometime, the table is also the place of disagreement, tensions, conflicts. It is ok to be not okay. And then, face-to-face, differences are spelled out, opening the door of negotiation, agreement, understanding, forgiveness and love.
“That table fellowship that made us human yesterday continues to renew us as human beings today. Therefore it is important to set aside for the meal in its full meaning of table fellowship and free and disinterested conversation. It is one of the permanent source of renewal for humanity, which is totally anemic today.” – Leonardo Boff.
Let put down our smart phones and have meal together, have the Holy Eucharist, the table of the Lord together.
With love,
