A superior sent a young brother to another community with this saying: “Well, I am sending you a useless brother!” This young brother named Gerard Majella, C.Ss.R. He proved this superior wrong in his span of less than 6 years as a religious.
His confreres had another tag-word for Gerard: “Let me do it, brother.” For whenever there were things that were difficult or tough situations or circumstances, Gerard would volunteer to step in and do something about it. Gerard made himself, in many ways, useful. He would accompany the Redemptorist Missioners on their missions. He was a spiritual guide, discerner of souls. Breaking down profound truths in simple words to simple people. He was a great spiritual guide.
He became a grassroots saint. SIMPLE AND HUMBLE, always OBEDIENT TO GOD’S WILL. Infact, outside of his door was a little note, which read: “HERE GOD’S WILL BE DONE.”
It can be seen, in God, a man was consider as useless becoming a great saint! It was God’s power manifested in his humble but heroic life!
Let us look at St. Gerard’s life to trust in God and let God’s power transform us. No matter what others can say about you, in God, we are always valued, precious, and be loved. Let the world see the Goodness of God through you.
Happy feast day of St. Gerard Majella, C.Ss.R.
With love,
