Jewish people often say “L’chaim” when raising their cup of wine. While it may seem similar to the English word “Cheers,” it carries a much deeper meaning—it translates to “life,” “living,” or “to celebrate life.” This ancient tradition serves as a reminder of a profound life lesson.
That lesson is that the most precious gift from God is life itself. Life may have its ups and downs, be filled with challenges, or even seem unjust. Yet, we must fight fiercely to survive, to live, and to thrive. This is why we should respect and treasure our own life, as well as the lives of others.
Have you ever had a loved one battle cancer? You can witness their constant struggle against death in their fight to stay alive. Let us take a moment to pray for them. And let us also say “L’chaim,” celebrating life—the most important gift from God, our Creator.
With love,
