Do you know that the title of the Korean movie “Khi cuộc đời cho bạn quả quýt”, titled “When Life Gives You tangerines” is not its original one. The Korean title “폭싹 속았수다” is a dialect from Jeju Island, meaning “Thank you for your hard work.” In the English version, instead of translating it literally, Netflix chose a creative interpretation.

This title carries a similar metaphor to a popular saying in Western culture: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” meaning that when life presents challenges or difficulties, one should find a way to turn them into opportunities or use them to create something better.

In the Vietnamese version, “quả quýt” (tangerine) is used in place of “quả chanh” (lemon) because both are fruits with a sweet-sour taste, symbolizing the imperfections or difficulties in life. This choice helps create a closer connection with the Vietnamese audience, while still conveying the message of how to face challenges and find value in life’s difficulties.

Therefore, the title “Khi cuộc đời cho bạn quả quýt” can be understood as a reminder that although life can be difficult at times, if we know how to use and learn from those challenges, they can lead to something good.

However, it is important to remember that the good outcomes will not come immediately. Just like when life gives us a sour fruit, it takes time to turn it into something sweet, such as Tangerine Jams or lemonades. In the same way, positive change, growth, or success often require patience and persistence. The journey to finding the value in life’s challenges may take time, but if we remain determined, keep learning, and stay consistent in our efforts, the rewards will eventually come. This message encourages us to stay hopeful and continue working towards our goals, trusting that the process itself is shaping us into stronger, wiser individuals.
