Emptiness and fullness! Do we often think they are opposite? However, in the spiritual  life, they are not.

Chinese philosophy states about Jin-Jang. You can see the magical movement or transformation of Jin and Jang in the circle. The maxixum of Jin is Jang and vice versa. In Jin, there is Jang, and in Jang, there is Jin.  It is quite difficult for Western minds to get this philosophy.

Let’s see some examples.

1. Scientifically speaking, land is cold, but the more we can dig deeper in the land, the hotter it can be. Or Sunlights are hot, but the sunlight is also the reason for rains, the rains is cold. The more we think about many “opposite concepts,” the more we can see they relate to each other.

2. Philosopher Heraclite stresses: “No one can step twice in a river.” In other words, for him, nothing is permant on this earth. Everything is temporary and changeable. When you have something on your hand, there is a potential that you will not have it in the future. When you have nothing, there is a chance you can have something later on.

Back to our topic today about Emptiness and Fullness. “In the spiritual life, we find the fullfilment of our deepest desires by becoming empty for God.” (1)  The journey of becoming empty, letting go of vanity, we would discover more about the fullfilment of many valuable things.

The moment Jesus emptied himself completely on the Cross was the moment he cried out: “It is fullfiled.” (John 19:20).

In a nutshell, we should not be afraid of emptiness. Rather than that, we can start being friends with emptiness.

15 minutes walking,

or 15 minutes sit still,

or 15 minutes silence.

ll the best in your silence, your emptiness and your fullness!
