It is a remarkable privilege to be born as a human being. Why? Thus far, it is evident that only human beings possess the capacity to think freely and deeply, as well as to communicate effectively through language. With this special gift, we can recognize our inherent uniqueness. Although there are more than 7 billion people on Earth, none are absolutely identical, not even identical twins.

Therefore, one must consider how precious and unique they are to the world. This is the value that we must respect and protect.

However, individualism presents a different narrative. It can easily lead to selfishness when individuals focus solely on themselves and disregard others. This concept warrants thorough reconsideration.

“He must increase; but I must decrease! (John 3:30)” During the Advent season, we encounter a notable figure named John the Baptist. He emphasized a profound truth of life: the lesson of humility and wisdom. He his role as one who prepares the way for the Lord. Although many praise him for his remarkable life and eloquence, he did not seek the spotlight for himself; instead, he pointed to the one greater than himself who would come later.

The lesson of humility is a lifelong pursuit of wisdom. It involves recognizing our need for others’ assistance for our birth and survival. It is about expressing gratitude for all support within society that sustains our lives. It is about being thankful for the gifts of nature. Most importantly it is essential to acknowledge that our existence derives from God; without God, we are nothing.

The image of John the Baptist serves as a reminder of what we should aspire to increase and what we must learn to decrease in our lives.

Happy Advent,
With love,
