“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). These words are not simply an invitation to become physically quiet; they are a call to surrender our fears, anxieties, and need for control into the hands of God. The waves may represent the adversities we encounter: suffering, uncertainty, disappointment, loneliness, or moments when everything seems beyond our strength. Yet none of these storms is greater than God.

The child’s trusting gaze toward Jesus becomes an image of faith. He does not look at the waves; he looks at the Lord. This is the heart of Christian trust: not pretending that difficulties do not exist, but choosing to believe that God is greater than whatever we face.

The brilliant light surrounding Christ suggests that even in the darkest moments, God’s presence remains our light and refuge. Sometimes He calms the storm; at other times, He calms our hearts while the storm continues.

True peace, therefore, is not a life without difficulties. It is the deep assurance that we are never alone. When the waters rise, we can remain still, breathe deeply, and whisper:

“Lord, I trust You. You are with me. I am safe in Your hands.”
